Description
Use for: Coenzyme Q10 is a fat-soluble compound that is similar to vitamin K. It is used for coenzyme Q10 deficiency or mitochondrial myopathies. It is also used for migraine, diabetic neuropathy, cardiovascular disorders such as myocardial infarction, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, ischemia perfusion injury and congestive heart failure.
Concerns: Coenzyme Q10 is mostly well tolerated in appropriate doses with some gastrointestinal side effects such as heartburn, epigastric discomfort and diarrhea, These side effects can be diminished by divided daily doses to 2-3 times per day.
There is concern for its hypotensive properties especially when used with supplements with hypotensive effects for the additive response. Coenzyme Q10 may also affect the PSA lab test results.
Use on pregnancy in appropriate dose could be safe but avoid using on lactation due to little information. Consult with health care provider on consideration of using Coenzyme Q10.
