Use for:
Probiotics are non-pathogenic, living microbes that are thought to provide the benefits to the host. It is used for prevention and treatment of diarrhea. It is also used for preventing necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), common cold, influenza, respiratory infection, general digestion problems, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and functional abdominal pain.
Concerns: Probiotics are mostly well tolerated in appropriate doses in short-term. Some side effects such as bloating, diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain and flatulence may rarely occur. Consult with health care professionals for the patients with immunocompromised condition on using probiotics due to possible increased risk for infection. Certain lactobacillus or bifidobacterium species may be safely used on pergnancy and lactation for short -term but other species should be avoided. Consult with health care providers for using on pregnancy and lactation.
